[π squared] squared

Π squared is a freelance residential project that has been designed for a young couple looking to start their new family. [Π squared] squared is the evolution of the design. The given plot is situated in rural Nicosia, surrounded by a natural mountainous landscape and unobstructed panoramic views. It is principle, as an architect, to start by analyzing the geographic and environmental characteristics of the site, and interweave the research with the clients’ needs to create a thorough scheme. Solar orientation and topography of the site were vital in the design of this project, as the current environmental state and global economy demand the use of natural energy and renewable resources. The proposed scheme utilizes an open-plan split level concept, where living and resting areas are in symbiosis with the outdoor natural environment, and the diurnal use of the house follows the flow of natural energy. Large openings and sliding wooden louvres, create a playful interconnection of interior and exterior, natural and build. The house uses a neutral colour scheme and material palette. A feature wall clad in slate is used to divide ground floor into zones, being living and services, and appears to be projecting the upper floor.

I was the sole architect of this project, responsible for site visits and analysis, initial conceptual design through to final proposal. To assist the progress of the design, working models were used, concluding to a final digital model and photorealistic representation. The project is currently awaiting planning approval.
